Gonzaga Prep, fresh from a semifinal upset of No. 1-ranked Garfield, is playing for its first-ever state championship in boys basketball Saturday night against Curtis in Washington’s Class 4A final.
It’s the marquee game of six boys finals Saturday at three venues. The championship games are being played at the Tacoma Dome (classes 3A, 4A), the Yakima Valley SunDome (1A, 2A) and the Spokane Arena (1B, 2B).
Gonzaga Prep (22-3) of Spokane stunned Garfield 66-53 in the final four on Friday. Chris Sarbaugh, who will play at Gonzaga (the university) next season, had 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Gonzaga Prep’s opponent, Curtis, is in a state final for the first time since 1986 and hasn’t won one since 1971.
Darius Johnson-Wilson’s 20 points and nine rebounds were team highs in an 83-71 victory over Davis in the semifinals. Davonte Lacy, a senior guard who has signed with Washington State, scored 19.

Washington 2B Final: Northwest Christian Tops Napavine In Defensive Struggle For Seventh State Title
Northwest Christian junior forward Kwinn Hanson’s 21 points were nearly enough to pull off a victory against Napavine in Washington’s Class 2B championship game Saturday night at Spokane Arena.
With some help from Hanson’s teammates, Northwest Christian (25-2) won 36-24 and captured the school’s seventh state championship.

After upsetting top-ranked Garfield and University of Washington-bound Tony Wroten in the semifinals, Gonzaga Prep continued its run to the top Saturday night with a convincing 61-41 victory over Curtis to take Washington’s Class 4A title at the Tacoma Dome.
Led by Gonzaga-bound guard Chris Sarbaugh and fellow senior Parker Kelly, the Bullpup offense shot nearly 50 percent from the field, with Kelly scoring 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Sarbaugh scored 17 and had six assists.

Avenging a loss from one week ago, Clover Park of Tacoma won its first boys basketball state championship in history Saturday night with a 69-54 victory over Squalicum of Bellingham.
Squalicum, which had been the three-time defending champion in Class 2A, had beaten Clover Park 56-54 last week in a regional championship.

After three straight seasons of losing in the semifinals, Lakes is not just in the championship game this season. The Lancers are Class 3A champions after a 71-56 victory Saturday night over Bellevue in the Tacoma Dome, which had been their house of horrors the previous three years.
Junior forward Nate Guy scored 22 points to lead Lakes (24-3). Senior guard Isaac Winston had 19 points for Lakes. Zach Banner, a 6-8, 300-pound junior center who is a high-profile football recruit at offensive tackle, scored 15.
