Alabama workout highlights Wednesday pro day schedule

Today's pro days: Alabama, BYU, California-Davis, California, Clark-Atlanta, Colorado State, Georgia Tech, Kent State, Mississippi State, Nebraska-Omaha, North Texas, Northern Colorado, Portland State, Rutgers, Texas A&M, West Georgia, Wisconsin, UTEP

There are a lot of pro days today, but none will get more attention from NFL teams than Alabama's. The workout for defensive lineman Marcell Dareus could be vastly important for his draft stock. After the NFL Combine, some are starting to believe that he's a better player than Auburn's Nick Fairley.

After Fairley looked so good at his pro day Tuesday, it's up to Dareus to do the same. While they're two different style of players, some teams that run a 4-3 might ask them to do the same thing.

Although wide receiver

Julio Jones

isn’t working out, but he’s not the only Tide offensive player who will skip today’s pro day. Quarterback

Greg McElroy

just had a cast removed after suffering a broken hand at the Senior Bowl. Running back

Mark Ingram

ran a little slower than expected at the Combine and could rectify that today.
I erroneously thought Wisconsin’s pro day was on Tuesday. Thus, it remains crucial for running back John Clay to run at least an average time in the 40-yard dash.
Unlike previous years, there aren’t as many prospects to watch at Georgia Tech, Rutgers and BYU. Instead, more scouts will probably be at Mississippi State. Offensive tackle

Derek Sherrod

may be a first round pick, though he’s had some struggles in the offseason at the Combine and Senior Bowl.
The Bulldogs also have several third day prospects like defensive end

Pernell McPhee

and linebackers

K.J. Wright

and Chris White.
There should also be plenty of scouts at the Portland State workout to watch tight end

Julius Thomas

. He’s an athletic player for being 6-foot-4 and 1/2 and 246 pounds. At the Combine, Thomas ran the 40-yard dash in 4.64 seconds and posted a vertical jump of 35 1/2 inches.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.
