Here is my latest attempt at mocking the 2nd round of the NFL Draft. My 1st round selections could be seen HERE and are important to understanding these selections. The early part of my 2nd round is dominated by quarterbacks and the run begins with the Cardinals at pick #38. Be sure to check out our Scouting Reports and stop back tomorrow to see my mock of the 3rd round.
Updated 2011 NFL Draft: 2nd Round
33. New England Patriots (from Car.)- Mikel Leshoure- RB- Illinois
- Leshoure has a good shot to sneak into the first round but if he falls this far I feel the Pats will scoop him up. Leshoure has a chance to be a special running back in the NFL.
34. Buffalo Bills- Cameron Heyward- DE/DT- Ohio State
- Heyward is the type of versatile defensive lineman that would benefit the Buffalo Bills. The Bills are a team without a true defensive identity and Heyward has the ability to play either defensive tackle or defensive end in the 3-4 scheme.
35. Cincinnati Bengals- Ryan Williams- RB- Virginia Tech
- Cedric Benson had a decent season but is a free agent and is not guaranteed to return. This team also lacks great depth at the running back position.
36. Denver Broncos- Kyle Rudolph- TE- Notre Dame
- Josh McDaniels made several moves at the tight end position that left the position bare. Rudolph will be a nice security blanket for either Tim Tebow or Kyle Orton.
37. Cleveland Browns- Akeem Ayers- LB- UCLA
- This is really a best player available pick but it will also give the Browns a playmaker at the linebacker position.
38. Arizona Cardinals- Jake Locker- QB- Washington
- The Cardinals get their quarterback of the future here in the 2nd round. Locker is a talented quarterback with upside but needs time to develop. Look for Arizona to add a vet to help mentor Locker.
39. Tennessee Titans- Andy Dalton- QB- TCU
- Dalton is a fast rising prospect and would be a nice fit for the quarterback needy Titans.
40. Dallas Cowboys- Rahim Moore- S- UCLA
- The Cowboys have had some problems in the back end of their secondary for a few years. Moore is a true center fielder with a nose for the football.
41. Washington Redskins- Christian Ponder- QB- Florida State
- Washington is another team that needs to make a move at the quarterback position. However, they might have to move up the draft in order to secure their top choice.
42. Houston Texans- Jabaal Sheard- OLB/DE- Pittsburgh
- Wade Phillips is bring the 3-4 defense to Houston and pieces will need to be added. Sheard is a rising prospect that could fit at the outside linebacker position.
43. Minnesota Vikings- Derick Sherrod- OT- Mississippi State
- The offensive line was a real weakness for the Vikings. They gave up to many sacks and quarterback hurries which impacted play execution.
44. Detroit Lions- Mason Foster- LB- Washington
- I love Foster and feel that he has a real bright future. Detroit has holes to fill at linebacker and Foster can make a difference right away.
45. San Francisco 49ers- Christian Ballard- DE/DT- Iowa
- Ballard is an intriguing prospect that is very versatile. He could come in and give the 49ers depth on the defensive line and provide a pressure from the end position.
46. Denver Broncos (from Mia)- Aaron Williams- CB/S- Texas
- Age is becoming a problem for the Broncos secondary. Williams is capable of playing either cornerback or safety.
47. St. Louis Rams- Randall Cobb- WR- Kentucky
- The Rams need to give Bradford more weapons and Cobb has playmaker written all over him.
48. Oakland Raiders- Clint Boling- G- Georgia
- Robert Gallery is likely leaving Oakland and this creates at hole in the interior of the offensive line.
49. Jacksonville Jaguars- Martez Wilson- LB- Illinois
-Wilson is an exceptional talent which is something needed at linebacker position for Jacksonville.
50. San Diego Chargers- Jon Baldwin- WR- Pittsburgh
- Both Vincent Jackson and Malcolm Floyd could depart this offseason so bringing in a new target for Rivers might be necessary. Baldwin fits the mold of a Chargers receiver with his impressive size.
51. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Sam Acho- DE/OLB- Texas
- The Bucs are looking to bring someone in to help generate a pass rush. Acho has speed off the edge with several counter moves. Some feel that Acho best fits at outside linebacker but he possesses the leverage and anchor to play defensive end and hold up against the run.
52. New York Giants- Quan Sturdivant- LB- North Carolina
- The Giants are still looking for an answer at the middle linebacker position.
53. Indianapolis Colts- Marvin Austin- DT- North Carolina
- The Colts have been in need of interior defensive line help for a few years. Austin has 1st round talent and would fit in nicely in Indy.
54. Philadelphia Eagles- Marcus Cannon- G- TCU
- Andy Reid loves big interior offensive linemen and they don’t come much bigger than Cannon.
55. Kansas City Chiefs- Torrey Smith- WR- Maryland
-The Chiefs need to find someone to keep the double teams off of Bowe. Smith showed this past season that he is a playermaker.
56. New Orleans Saints- Bruce Carter- LB- North Carolina
- Carter’s stock took a bit of a hit due to a late season injury. However, the talent is present for him to be a real contributor early in his career.
57. Seattle Seahawks- Allen Bailey- DE/DT- Miami
- Not sure what type of NFL player Bailey will be but his athletic ability is undeniable. He could play the unique 5 technique position in Pete Carroll’s defense.
58. Baltimore Ravens- Titus Young- WR- Boise State
- Young's playmaking ability will appeal to the Ravens. He is a player they could stick in the slot to create mismatches.
59. Atlanta Falcons- Orlando Franklin- G- Miami
- Atlanta is facing some possible turnover along their offensive line.
60. New England Patriots- Leonard Hankerson- WR- Miami
- Hankerson has good size something that is lacking in the Patriots receiving corps.
61. San Diego Chargers (from NYJ)- Marcus Gilbert- OT- Florida
- The Chargers need some help at the right tackle position.
62. Chicago Bears- Ben Ijalana- OT- Villanova
- The Bears need help in several positions along the offensive line. Ijalana is a bit raw but Mike Tice is one of the best coaches in the game.
63. Pittsburgh Steelers- Jah Reid- OT- UCF
- The offensive line suffered a lot of injuries last season and it is possible that Colon doesn’t return this season.
64. Green Bay Packers- Dontay Moch- OLB- Nevada
- This is a developmental pick but if anyone can get use of Moch’s speed its Capers.
