Zach Randolph could sign a contract extension with the Memphis Grizzlies as soon as Thursday, reports Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial-Appeal. The terms of the extension are unclear, but the Grizzlies are already on the hook for $37 million in payroll next season without accounting for Randolph or restricted free agent Marc Gasol.
Zach Randolph Contract Extension With Grizzlies Close, Says Report
Randolph earned more than $17 million this season, but the Grizzlies were rewarded with a playoff berth. Randolph had a third consecutive 20-points, 10-rebound season and was Memphis' most important offensive player as the Grizzlies made the postseason for the first time since 2006. Randolph signed his ending contract with the Blazers back in 2005, but was jettisonned from Portland and struggled to produce with the Knicks and Clippers before landing in Memphis.
If Randolph’s contract isn’t extended by July 1, he’s expected to become one of the top free agents on the market, provided the NBA doesn’t slip into a lockout.
