With the 43rd overall pick in the 2011 SB Nation NFL Writers Mock Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select Ricky Stanzi, quarterback, Iowa.

Dan Kadar reacts: It really wasn’t a surprise to see the Vikings use this pick on a quarterback. It was a shock to see it be Stanzi. Although I’m not as high on Nevada’s Colin Kaepernick as others, he’s a much better player than Stanzi. It sort of seems like people are touting Stanzi as maybe the next Tom Brady solely to take a flier. At Iowa, though, Stanzi was wildly inconsistent and even more frustrating to follow. It’s not like Stanzi is a physical marvel, either. He’s just average or above-average everywhere. Kaepernick at least has tools that can be molded into a starter. Stanzi seems like a career backup and a risky second-round pick. [Ricky Stanzi Scouting Report]
