Philadelphia Phillies left-handed reliever J.C. Romero was pulled from Monday night's game against the Brewers after collapsing in pain while chasing a ground ball. The injury looked especially painful, and he was diagnosed with a strained right calf, so it wasn't much of a surprise that the Phillies put him on the disabled list today.

To fill Romero’s place on the roster, the Phillies called up Mike Zagurski, a hard-throwing, oft-wild lefty who has a career K/9 ratio of 11.3 in the minor leagues.
The 35-year-old Romero had allowed two earned runs in 4-2/3 innings for the Phillies this year, though both of those runs scored after another reliever had entered the game. The Phillies have used Antonio Bastardo as their primary left-handed arm out of the bullpen, and he's responded well, throwing 6-2/3 scoreless innings so far in 2011.
This is the first trip to the DL for Romero since elbow surgery ended his 2009 season early, according to Baseball Injury Tool.
