With six games left in the Eredivisie season, Saturday’s fixture between FC Twente and PSV Eindhoven couldn’t possibly be any bigger. The teams are first and second in the table, with PSV leading by just one point. If they’re going to expand on their lead, they have to do something they haven’t done in six years: Win in Enschede. They’ll also have to do it without star striker Ola Toivonen, who has picked up a muscle strain. His 13 league goals will be sorely missed, but PSV have plenty of weapons.
FC Twente Vs. PSV Eindhoven: Top Two Teams In Holland Fight For Eredivisie Title
Winger Balázs Dzsudzsák is plenty healthy, and he's been arguably the best player in The Netherlands this season. The Hungarian international has an incredible 15 goals this year, and his combinations with Toivonen and others have been fantastic. Two of the players other than Toivonen that helped PSV accumulate their current point total, Jonathan Reis and Ibrahim Affellay, will also not suit up for PSV today. Reis is injured and hasn't played in 2011, while Affellay will be wearing a different color shirt for his new club, FC Barcelona. Luckily, Jermaine Lens has stepped up in their absences.
FC Twente are stacked with talent of their own, and like PSV, they are not without injuries. Costa Rican international Bryan Ruiz is out injured and target man Marc Janko is struggling for fitness as well. Still, young forwards Luuk de Jong and Nacer Chadli are in good form and will cause problems for PSV. Additionally, veteran midfielder Theo Janssen is putting together a stellar season.
If you can find this game on television where you live, it’s must-see stuff. FC Twente and PSV kick off the game of the year in Holland at 12:45 pm ET.
