Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field, the .500 Chicago Cubs (9-9) hosted the .500 Los Angeles Dodgers (10-10), but odds hardly seemed even. Not with the Cubs starting Casey Coleman on the mound. And not with the Dodgers starting Chad Billingsley. Not to mention the Dodgers having the full weight of Bud Selig behind them.
Dodgers Vs. Cubs: L.A. Wins 12-2, Now 3-0 In Selig Era
The result was a 12-2 blowout, with Los Angeles running their record to 3-0 since the Commissioner’s Office assumed control of the franchise.
This affair started late because of rain, but essentially ended early when the Dodgers scored six runs in the third inning, with Billingsley capping the rally with a run-scoring single that knocked Coleman out of the game.
The Dodgers added two more in the fourth on Juan Uribe's home run, one in the sixth on Uribe's sacrifice fly, and three in the ninth on Marcus Thames' two-run homer and Tony Gwynn's RBI single.
Meanwhile, Billingsley was plenty good enough on a chilly day, throwing 108 pitches before getting lifted with one out in the seventh inning. Kenley Jansen and Lance Cormier finished up with 2-2/3 scoreless frames, with Jansen striking out four of the five Cubs he faced.
