Kenrick Ellis
6’5, 346 pounds | Defensive tackle | Hampton
Final word: Ellis’ stock is elevated in the 2011 NFL Draft because he plays at a premium position with few options this year. Ellis is a physical specimen at 6-foot-5, 346 pounds with long arms. He had an impressive 94 tackles from the tackle spot, but his level of competition should be noted. Still, at the NFLPA game, Ellis looked like the best player on the field and held up against better competition. He was a South Carolina signee but was dismissed for rules violations.
NOTES:
• Ellis’ size and power base makes him a force against the run. He’s hard to move off the block and has his way with single blockers.
• His only pass rush move is a bull rush. Doesn’t get many sacks, but consistently collapses the pocket with his strength.
• Has played in a one- and three-technique role for Hampton.
• More agile than you’d expect from a big defensive tackle. Shows the foot quickness to move around blockers.
• Is more of a block-occupy defensive tackle instead of a gap shooter.
• Has shown some stamina issues during his career and his weight will probably be under scrutiny his entire career. Still, when he has his wind, Ellis plays with a lot of hustle.
• Will sometimes not play up to his natural strength and try to be flashy.
• Comes with a lot of character concerns – drug issues, assault charges.
