The 2011 NFL Draft begins Thursday and the staff at Mocking the Draft is working hard to bring you the most in-depth information possible. We have spent countless hours reviewing college games in an attempt to produce scouting reports for each of the prospects. However, time is running out so we decided to release some scouting notes in order to cover a wider range of prospects.

Brandon Burton
5'11, 190 pounds | Cornerback | Utah
Final word: Burton was a two-year starter for Utah after playing behind Sean Smith early in his career. He had three career interceptions and broke up 18 career passes. Really arrived in the 2010 season against Pittsburgh when he manned up Jon Baldwin pretty well. That game was something of an aberration, though. Burton can be a soft cornerback who doesn't play with a lot of strength. He projects as a good No. 2 cornerback, but needs to get stronger to play man.
NOTES:
• Burton has quick feet at the line to attack the wide receiver, turn and run. Moves around smoothly and has loose hips.
• Has solid height to match up with bigger receivers but is agile enough to take on quick pass catchers.
• Will need to get stronger. Can get pushed around by big receivers and doesn’t make a lot of impact against the run.
• Needs to refine his technique. Gets high in his backpedal and time his jumps poorly. This leads to inconsistency is his game.
• In zone, Burton closes quickly but doesn’t maintain his assignment area properly. Needs to coordinate better with the safety over the top.
• Possesses good playing speed despite running a 4.5 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.
• Is a typically solid tackler, though he doesn’t drive through his blocks like he should.
