Peter King of Sports Illustrated dedicated much of his weekly Monday Morning Quarterback column today to the 2011 NFL Draft.
Peter King: Trade may be in place to jump back into first for QB
It’s full of solid tidbits, but none juicier than a trade item. King reports that a deal could be in place with a team offering their second-round pick and a first in 2012 to jump back into the first round this year for a quarterback.
King guesses it's New England offering the 28th overall pick and Tennessee may be the suitor. That seems like a lot to give up for Jake Locker, Andy Dalton, Christian Ponder or Colin Kaepernick.
The Patriots are almost sure to add picks in the 2012 draft because they currently only have five selections next year.
But if you’re the team trading back into round one, how much better in 2011 does one of those quarterbacks make your team? That’s something I thought about further here.
Other notes from King:
- He details Ryan Mallett missing a meeting with the Panthers because he was out partying the night before.
- Dallas' pick at nine is wide open. King expects the Cowboys to look at either Anthony Castonzo or J.J. Watt.
- King compares Andy Dalton to Drew Brees. Do you see that comparison? King also defends his love of Dalton and the redhead quarterback meme that launched last week.
