Detroit's Nicklas Lidstrom, Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins and Nashville's Shea Weber have been named the finalists for the James Norris Memorial Trophy, which is presented to the NHL's top defenseman.
Lidstrom, Chara And Weber Named Norris Trophy Finalists
Lidstrom, who turns 41 on Thursday, is a nominee for the 11th time in the past 13 seasons despite finishing with a minus-rating (-2) for the first time in his career.
Lidstrom has won the award six of the last nine seasons (2001-03, 2006-08). If he were to capture a seventh Norris Trophy, Lidstrom would tie Doug Harvey for the second most all-time. Bobby Orr sits atop the list with eight.
Chara, the 2009 Norris Trophy winner, led the league with a plus-33 rating. The towering rearguard lit the lamp 14 times and dished out 30 assists in 81 games.
Weber received his first nomination after notching 16 goals and a career-high 32 assists in 82 games.
The winner will be announced during the 2011 NHL Awards program on June 22 in Las Vegas.
