It's almost as inevitable as Lazio having a player sent off this season: the racism of the club's fans, who have a reputation for being, shall we say, slightly to the right of center. The club has now been fined 8,000 euros after chanting a "racist slogan" during the defeat to Inter Milan at the weekend. Whatever the "racist slogan" is has not been revealed, but considering Samuel Eto'o scored the winning goal for a ten-man Inter, it seems fairly likely that the chants were directed at the Cameroonian striker.
Lazio Fined After Fans’ Racist Chants During Match Against Inter Milan
After spending much of the first half of the season leading Serie A, Lazio have now slipped to fourth place, one point above Udinese. They continue to crumble at the slightest pressure, with players committing rash tackles or even electing to headbutt the opposition while the referee stands nearby. Personally, if I were a Lazio fan, I'd be more concerned about making up clever chants about the inevitability of a red card, but it's hard to overcome history I suppose.*
*I’d also be concerned about the fact that the player’s shirts are so tight that you can always see every tiny bump and detail, but hey, maybe others don’t care about such things.
