FC Köln aren’t exactly having a wonderful season. The Bundesliga side, who have finished 12th and 13th in the last few years, are currently in 14th and just three points clear of the relegation zone. This, apparently has been enough for fans to become very angry at interim manager Frank Schaefer, who took over from Zvanomir Soldo in October. They have decided to express this anger in the form of death threats, namely a banner held during practice which said ‘If you go down we will kill you’, which seems decidedly unfriendly. As a result, Schaefer, who was only ever a temporary presence, has resigned with immediate effect.
FC Köln Manager Frank Schaefer Resigns After Death Threats
I have come to the realisation that at the moment I can no longer help the team in the way I consider necessary and therefore have decided to take this step
Granted, Köln have lost three on the trot, but that’s no reason to be making threats against the manager or the players. Pretty disgusting behaviour all around, and it’s hardly a surprise that the manager would resign over it.
