The Cleveland Indians are off to a hot start, but 40% of the rotation is now on the disabled list. Right-hander Carlos Carrasco is the latest victim, joining Mitch Talbot on the DL with elbow soreness. From the Plain Dealer:
Carlos Carrasco Injury Puts Indians Pitcher On DL; Alex White Possible Replacement
Carrasco exited last Saturday's start against the Twins after three innings, complaining of tightness in the elbow.Carrasco played catch at 60 feet Tuesday and said he felt fine. He was scheduled to throw 30-plus pitches in a bullpen session Wednesday. If that had gone well, Carrasco would have been cleared to start Saturday. The bullpen session never happened though, as Carrasco felt pain when he stretched his long toss out to 120 feet.
The Indians are expected to call up Alex White to start on Saturday, though nothing is official yet. White is Cleveland's top pitching prospect, and the former first-rounder has a 1.90 ERA in Triple-A this season.
John Sickels had this Alex White scouting report last week:
White’s key pitch is a power sinker that ranges between 88 and 95 MPH. He locates it well and the pitch generates grounders, giving him a 1.83 GO/AO this year and a 2.07 GO/AO last year. He has two strong secondary pitches: a plus splitter and an improving slider.Carrasco had a 4.97 ERA in five starts with a K/BB ratio of 18/10 in 29 innings.
