To hockey fans, there will be no surprises seeing the finalists for this year's Frank J. Selke Trophy. Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks, Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings, and Ryan Kesler of the Vancouver Canucks are the three men up for the award, and it's possible to make a good case for any of them. Toews, Datsyuk, and Kessler are renown as three of the most complete players in the game, and they are all deserving candidates for the award that recognizes "the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game," as per the award's description.
2011 Selke Trophy Finalists: Jonathan Toews, Pavel Datsyuk, Ryan Kesler Up For Honor
Datsyuk has won the award three straight times, but he missed 26 games due to injury this season. Last year, Kesler had just one less first place vote than Datsyuk, and most believe that he had a better season in 2010-11. Don’t count out Toews, though. The Blackhawks center finished second in the NHL with 93 takeaways this season.
