Delmon Young Rib Injury Apparently Forces Twins Outfielder To DL

Minnesota Twins outfielder Delmon Young hasn't appeared in a game since April 18 due to some soreness in his ribs. Young and the Twins have been taking things day by day, and Young was even in the original starting lineup on Wednesday night, but he was a late scratch after he had trouble getting loose before the game, and it seems that the team has finally decided to place him on the disabled list.

There's no official word just yet, but what we do have is that the Twins have called up minor league outfielder Rene Tosoni, and it seems like it's only a matter of time before Young is announced as the corresponding roster move. That's what Twins writer Kelsie Smith says, anyway, and I'm going to go ahead and take her word.

Because Young hasn’t played in so long, his DL stint could be retroactive to April 19, meaning he’d be eligible to return in just a few days. This is simply a way for the struggling Twins to get back to playing with a full roster while Young gets back to 100%. Over 63 trips to the plate, Young has a .566 OPS. The 24-year-old Tosoni has OPS’d .848 so far with AAA Rochester. Tosoni will serve as depth behind Jason Repko and Jason Kubel.

Update: It’s official now - Tosoni up, Young down.
