This news isn’t unexpected, but a tweet from MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian makes it very close to official:
Prospect Alex White Getting Call To Replace Carrasco
Acta: Indians will promote Alex White from AAA for Saturday’s start vs. Tigers.
White is taking the rotation slot formerly held by Carlos Carrasco, who just went on the Disabled List with an elbow injury.
As well as the Indians have played — they have the best record in the American League and the best run differential in the majors — little credit goes to Carrasco, who’s won just one of his five starts and sports the lowest strikeout-to-walk ratio in the rotation.
White might take his rookie lumps, but he probably won’t pitch much worse than Carrasco, so this is hardly a worrisome downgrade. Cleveland’s first-round draft pick two years ago, White is considered the organization’s top pitching prospect and has pitched brilliantly in his four Triple-A starts this spring, posting a 1.90 ERA with a ton of strikeouts.
