The Patriots chose to not trade the first of their two scheduled first round picks in the 2011 NFL Draft.
With the 17th pick, they took Colorado offensive tackle Nate Solder. It was kind of a surprise. The Patriots already have a project offensive tackle in Sebastian Vollmer. What is more surprising is that the Patriots chose not to take California defensive end Cameron Jordan.

Bill Belichick is smarter than all of us, so maybe he knows something. Right now, though, it’s hard to see Solder contributing in the next year or two.
