The San Diego Chargers used the 18th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft to select Illinois defensive tackle Corey Liuget.
San Diego Chargers select Corey Liuget No. 18 in NFL Draft
This pick is a surprise in the sense that Liuget will likely be playing defensive end in San Diego’s 3-4 scheme. San Diego hasn’t replaced end Igor Olshansky, so it makes sense that they would go with a defensive lineman. But with Cal’s Cameron Jordan still on the board, it’s hard to think highly of this pick.
Much like the selection of Larry English in 2009, this is a risky pick for the Charges. If Liuget doesn’t pan out for the Chargers, general manager A.J. Smith could be on the hot seat.
