The word is the Seattle Seahawks were trying feverishly to trade the 25th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. With no suitors, the Seahawks kept the pick and went with Alabama offensive tackle James Carpenter.

After Jake Locker going eighth overall to the Titans, this has to be the most surprising pick of the first round. Carpenter played two seasons for Alabama and was a solid, dependable player. He’s really not what you’re looking for in a first-round pick, though.
Many considered Carpenter a likely second rounder at best. To see him go in the first round is peculiar.
