New York Red Bulls Will Participate In Emirates Cup

The New York Red Bulls will become the first MLS team in the five-year history of the Emirates Cup to compete in the London-based tournament when they meet European powers Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal on July 30-31. The tournament, played during the European off-season will also feature Argentinian power Boca Juniors.

“We are honored with Arsenal’s invitation to participate in this year’s Emirates Cup,” said Erik Soler, Red Bulls General Manager and Sporting Director, in a statement. “Our club is looking forward to representing Major League Soccer in this high profile international tournament.”

Whichever team has the most points at the end of two days will be crowned the winner. Teams will get three points for a win and one point for a draw. In an attempt to encourage attacking play, an additional point will also be awarded for each goal scored. If teams are tied on points, goal-difference would be the first-tiebreaker and shots on goal would be the second.
