Just as last year's CONCACAF Champions League was ending, qualifying for Canada's spot in this year's tournament began. The winner of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship will not only claim the Voyageurs Cup, but they'll also get a spot in the preliminary round of the CCL. Toronto FC has won the tournament each of the past three seasons.
Nutrilite Canadian Championship For Voyageurs Cup: MLS Teams Off To Strong Starts
This year’s tournament features four teams, the Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC of MLS and the Monteral Impact and FC Edmonton of the NASL. The four teams will each play two-legged semifinal and the winners will advance to a two-legged final. In years past the tournament was conducted as a round-robin, with every team playing the other once at home.
In Wednesday’s action, the Vancouver Whitecaps beat the Montreal Impact 1-0 and Toronto FC beat FC Edmonton 3-0. The NASL teams hosted both matches. The semifinal round will conclude next Wednesday with the matches being played at the MLS sites.
