The three finalists for the 2011 Hart Memorial Trophy, handed out to the regular season MVP in the NHL, have been announced.
2011 Hart Trophy: Corey Perry, Daniel Sedin, Martin St. Louis Up For League MVP
Either Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks, Daniel Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks and Martin St. Louis of the Tampa Bay Lightning will take home the award on June 22 in Las Vegas at the League's yearly awards.
Perry turned up his candidacy late in the season. He was a huge part of the Ducks ascent to the No. 4 seed in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as he scored 30 points in the final 16 games of the regular season to propel the Ducks up. That included a whopping 19 goals over that stretch, which is obviously just an obscene number.
Sedin’s brother, Henrik, took home the hardware a year ago, and they could probably just keep it at their parents house if Daniel takes it home this year. After all, one brother doesn’t win it without the other. The Art Ross Trophy winner, Daniel put up 104 points playing with his brother and Alex Burrows on the Canucks top line.
St. Louis scored 99 points on the season, including 31 goals. It’s apparent that the voters enjoy scoring, since these three guys are all Nos. 1, 2 and 3 in that department in the NHL this season. Given the way he turned it up down the season, Perry has to be considered the front runner, but any of the candidates would certainly be worth winners.
