Daisuke Matsuzaka Injury Causes Early Exit

Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka was pulled from Friday night's game against the Seattle Mariners, leaving the game with what was described as right elbow tightness. Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe noted that Dice-K's velocity was down before he was pulled:

Dice-K was 87, 86, 87 on his last three fastballs. He was at 92-93 earlier in the game.

After two years of tantalizing and frustrating the Red Sox and their fans, Dice-K was coming off two of his finest starts as a major leaguer -- combined 15 shutout innings of two-hit ball against the Blue Jays and the Angels. He gave up three runs to the Mariners in his four innings of work.

While Dice-K has suffered several injuries in his time with Boston, they affected his shoulder, groin, and back. This is is the first time he has had a problem with his elbow, at least since leaving Japan for Major League Baseball.
