Most of the lame, overwrought,"'he's the next Tom Brady" talk directed at him, it was Ricky Stanzi. The Kansas City Chiefs drafted him in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Stanzi has good size and it's easy to like his experience in a pro-style system. Stanzi also has one of the faster releases among quarterbacks in this class. The issue with Stanzi is the mental part of the game. Pressure seems to get to him, whether is a rush or playing in the fourth quarter.
If anything, Stanzi should probably be compared to current Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel. He's not great in any area and will sometimes make boneheaded plays. He also has a scary tendency to throw in bad coverage situations. At least that's a coachable trait, though.
Stanzi had a breakthrough senior season, completing 64.1 percent of his passes for 25 touchdowns and six interceptions. Before that, though, he didn't complete 60 percent of his passes and threw 31 touchdowns against 25 interceptions.
