Minnesota Vikings finally address CB need with Brandon Burton

The Minnesota Vikings continued to draft strong on the third day of the 2011 NFL Draft by selecting Utah cornerback Brandon Burton.

After quarterback, cornerback was arguably the Vikings' most pressing need. Cedric Griffin and Antoine Winfield are unknowns coming back from injury at this point in their careers. To get Burton in the fifth round was a coup.

Burton was a two-year starter for Utah after playing behind Sean Smith early in his career. He had three career interceptions and broke up 18 career passes. He really arrived in the 2010 season against Pittsburgh when he manned up Jon Baldwin pretty well. That game was something of an aberration, though. Burton can be a soft cornerback who doesn't play with a lot of strength. He projects as a good No. 2 cornerback, but needs to get stronger to play man. Still, as a fifth-round pick, he's a good one.
