Clay Buchholz Sick, Scratched From Sunday Start

From WEEI.com, news about the Red Sox' Sunday starter:

Tim Wakefield will make his first start of the season Sunday afternoon, replacing scheduled starter Clay Buchholz, who was sent home on Friday with what Red Sox manager Terry Francona called "intestinal turmoil." Buchholz (1-3, 5.33 ERA) will be pushed back to Monday for the opener of a four-game series with the Angels.

This can't be any fun for Buchholz, but pushing him to Monday presumably pushes Daisuke Matsuzaka to Thursday, which is useful as Dice-K recovers from the elbow problem that knocked him out of Friday night's start in the fifth inning. And if Matsuzaka can't pitch Thursday, Wakefield is one of the few pitchers in the majors who might reasonably be asked to pitch on three days rest.

Of course, all this assumes that Buchholz is able to pitch Monday night. If not, all bets are off and the Red Sox will probably make a roster move.
