The UFC held a special media conference call to announce that former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is again suffering from diverticulitis, the illness that sidelined him for an entire year and nearly ended his career. UFC President Dana White announced today Lesnar is out of UFC 131. UFC heavyweight Shane Carwin will replace Lesnar at UFC 131 and will face Junior dos Santos in his absence.

“I want to thank the UFC. I want to thank to Mr. White. I want to apologize to Junior dos Santos and Spike TV,” Lesnar said today on the call today.
Lesnar said he’s felt symptoms the last three months, including during shooting of Spike TV’s ‘The Ultimate Fighter’. According to the fighter, he felt abdominal pain during course of training camp. He went to get a CT scan, which revealed visible inflation. “Due to that, it didn’t allow me to train to my full capabilities,” Lesnar stated.
Lesnar was adamant this did not threaten his fighting career or future in the UFC. “It’s not as serious as last time,” Lesnar said, referencing his 2009-10 bout with the illness. “I’m not retiring. This isn’t the end of my fight career.”
The frustration, though, was palpable: “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
