For the second time in as many playoff rounds, we're looking at a history-making night in San Jose on Thursday as the Sharks host the Detroit Red Wings in Game 7. Can the Wings become the fourth NHL team to come back from a 3-0 hole to win a series?
Red Wings Vs. Sharks, Game 7: History Awaits Each Team, One Way Or Another
The momentum, if you believe in that sort of thing, says yes. It’s tough to imagine any swagger coming out of the Sharks locker room today, after blowing a third period lead in Game 6 on Tuesday night at Joe Louis Arena. Meanwhile, Detroit is obviously on top of the world, never mind the fact that all three of their wins -- and really, all three of their losses in the series -- were close wins.
Then again, Game 6 was actually a come-from-behind win, but with the way the Red Wings played, the Sharks should really feel lucky to have been involved. They were thoroughly outplayed by the Wings throughout, and more than just the win, that’s what has Detroit beaming and San Jose nervous as we enter the do-or-die final game.
For San Jose, Game 7 is going to come down to the ability to put the rest of the series behind them. The three wins, the three losses. It’s all over now. They need one win. Detroit’s already shown the ability to put the past behind them, winning three straight elimination games. It’s now up to the Sharks to do the same.
That's what could decide Game 7 -- and the future of each franchise, to boot. Johan Franzen of the Wings and Ryane Clowe of the Sharks are both listed as game-time decisions for this final game. The puck drops at 9 p.m. on VERSUS and TSN.
