The 500-Mile Race, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year and its 100th running in 2016, remains the largest single-day sporting event in the world with an estimated 400,000 spectators. Like the Kentucky Derby, the World Series, the World Cup and the Super Bowl, it is a tradition-filled sporting event that crosses all generational and demographical lines to appeal to a universal audience.
