The rain came early and often on Saturday as early practice sessions at Indianapolis Motor Speedway got underway. With the 2011 Indy 500 still two weeks away, teams are tinkering and drivers are getting a feel for the track during practice sessions in preparation for next weekend’s qualifying. Though it may be too early to infer whether these early practice times with transfer to qualifying and the Indianapolis 500, they do give us an idea of which drivers are performing well.
Indy 500: Ed Carpenter Turns In Fastest Lap During Rain-Shortened Practice Session
Ed Carpenter cclocked the fastest lap of the day, navigating the track at an average speed of 224.786 mph. Scott Dixon, running his backup car, was second-fastest at 224.491 mph. JR Hildebrand was third at 224.433 mph, followed by Dario Franchitti and Marco Andretti at 224.107 mph and 223.927 mph, respectively.
Practice gets back underway on Sunday at noon, weather permitting. The session at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is scheduled to last six hours.
