Roy Oswalt Slated To Start For Phillies On Tuesday

For a couple of reasons, Phillies starter Roy Oswalt has been missing since the end of April. Not only did he take time away to be with his family after some area tornadoes; he was also placed on the disabled list with a back injury. But his family is just fine, and as far as the injury is concerned, it doesn't appear to be a factor anymore. Oswalt has had some successful throwing sessions on the mound and in the bullpen, and according to Ruben Amaro, he's going to return to the Phillies this week:

Roy Oswalt (back) threw a bullpen session Saturday in Clearwater and is set to start Tuesday in St. Louis. Who goes to the minors when he comes back? The obvious candidate is Vance Worley, but Amaro suggested he could stick.

The return of Oswalt will restore the Phillies' season-opening five-man rotation, now that Joe Blanton is back as well. And it's safe to say that the Phillies got along just fine without both of them; stopgaps Kyle Kendrick and Vance Worley combined to allow just one run over 17 innings in three starts. Yeah, that's fair.
