Alex Tagliani of Canada has turned in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s fastest lap time of the month in advance of the 2011 Indy 500, putting together a 225.878 mph lap during Monday’s late practices. With qualifying scheduled for Saturday, Tagliani may have just established himself as the favorite to win the pole.

Close behind were 2008 winner Scott Dixon (225.124 mph), American Graham Rahal (225.071 mph), Ryan Briscoe (225.016) and Oriol Servia (224.903), with 2010 winner Dario Franchitti turning in at 224.496 mph performance, good enough for seventh, and Helio Castroneves posting 224.348 mph to rank eighth.
Teams will have four more days of practices in advance of qualifying, with preparations culminating in Indy’s infamous Fast Friday.
