Ole Miss Loses Delvin Jones, Clarence Jackson Following Arrest

A little too much camaraderie between teammates has cost two Ole Miss Rebels their slots on the football team. Linebacker Clarence Jackson and defensive end Delvin Jones, suspended indefinitely following their arrest for public drunkenness last week, have been dismissed from the squad per a statement from Houston Nutt.

At least the sophomore miscreants weren’t quarterbacks, though Jackson was battling right at the top of the two-deep on the weakside. SB Nation’s Red Cup Rebellion is mildly incensed at finding more attrition in an already-bleak offseason:

What in the hell? A dismissal over a public intoxication charge? There’s gotta be more to it, especially when considering that Delvin Jones and Clarence Jackson were two of our most promising young defenders (Jackson was even slated to start at WLB this fall). I understand that they’re repeat offenders and all, having both committed hilarious crimes as freshmen, but this just seems a touch draconian. They’re not kidding about the hilarity: Jackson’s 2010 troubles stemmed from being caught with electronics belonging to the Ole Miss math department.
