Mark Herzlich, Jerrod Johnson, Jeremiah Masoli taken in UFL Draft

The upstart UFL held its draft tonight, live on Twitter. The five-team league is heavy on name coaches – Jerry Glanville in Hartford, Jim Fassel in Las Vegas, Dennis Green in Sacramento and Marty Schottenheimer in Virginia.

The most notable selection came in the last round. With the 51st pick, the Omaha Nighthawks took Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich.

The No. 1 pick was former Texas A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson by the Hartford Colonials. If you recall, Johnson was thought highly of leading into the 2010 season before eventually losing his job to Ryan Tannehill. According to Darren Rovell of CNBC, Johnson will make $40,000. Rovell said that is eight times less than the minimum salary of any NFL player.

There were some splash picks in the draft this year. Cam Newton's brother, Cecil, was picked by Hartford in the third round. Former Oregon and Ole Miss quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was taken in the eighth round by Omaha.

Looking over the entire draft, which you can do after the jump, the Nighthawks had the strongest draft. In addition to Herzlich and Masoli, the team added local favorites from Nebraska and Kentucky running back Derrick Locke in the ninth round.
