Indy 500 Live Results: Dario Franchitti, Scott Dixon Still Dominating, Danica Patrick In Top Ten

More than three quarters of the 2011 Indy 500’s laps have been run, and only two drivers look likely to kiss the bricks at day’s end. Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon have been dominant today.

Through 161 laps, and just before an accident collected Ryan Briscoe and Townsend Bell, Franchitti led, with Oriol Servia, Graham Rahal, Dixon, and Tony Kanaan rounding out the top five.

Franchitti and Dixon have combined to lead over 100 laps at Indianapolis Motor Speedway today, and have captured three of the last four Indy 500 races as members of the powerful Chip Ganassi Racing team.

Among other notable drivers, Helio Castroneves’ chances of winning a fourth Indianapolis 500 likely died with an unscheduled pit stop to fix a blown right rear tire, and Danica Patrick’s bid to win her first Indy 500 despite needing Bump Day to qualify 26th has been both aided and hampered by the race’s series of cautions.

Patrick has been able to make minor adjustments to keep her car competitive, but has had her strong late runs interrupted by inopportune yellow flags. She will begin the final fifth of the race in the top 10, but may need green flag racing to the checkered flag to have a chance of victory.
