Dan Herron Player Profile

Dan Herron is an interesting prospect. He has good power and runs hard but needs a good season to be a Day 1 or Day 2 pick.

Dan Herron, RB, Ohio State

  • Height: 5’10″
  • Weight: 205
  • Class: Senior

NFL Player Comparison

  • Delone Carter: Herron reminds me exactly of this year’s RB prospect, Delone Carter. Like Carter, he plays bigger than he is and runs incredibly hard. The big difference between them is that Herron has very good hands and is a good receiving threat and Carter was not. That is why Herron could go on Day 2 and Carter did not.

Player Bio:

  • As a freshman, Herron was a backup to Beanie Wells. He rushed for 439 yards and six touchdowns. His best game of the season was against Michigan when he had 80 yards and two touchdowns. As a sophomore, he had 633 yards in only 10 games. He also had 7 touchdowns. He was incredible in his Junior season, rushing for 1155 yards and 16 touchdowns. Expect him to have an even better season this year.

Career Stats:

  • 371 carries, 2046 rushing yards, 5.51 ypc, 30 rushing touchdowns, 36 catches, 425 receiving yards, 11.8 yards per catch

Projected Draft Status: second to fourth round

  • Herron should be the third to fifth RB taken in the draft. If he has a great college season, he will probably go in the second round. If he has an average season, the fourth round seems likely.

Video Highlights:

  • Highlight #1: Dan Herron vs. Navy: This was a pretty good game for Herron. Not great. Some good plays in here.

Final Thoughts

  • Herron is a good but not great RB prospect. He does not possess great top end speed but he runs very hard and runs smart. He has good acceleration and works best running behind the tackles.
  • He has come up biggest in Ohio State’s biggest games. He had 456 yards vs. Wisconsin, Michigan, and Penn State in 2010.
  • He has the potential to be a workhorse RB in the NFL. He has the frame and talent to be able to carry the ball 300 times in a season.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.
