Center fielder Cameron Maybin's been one of the last-place San Diego Padres' few bright spots this season, but Maybin hasn't played since last Friday and now he's heading for the Disabled List with swelling in his right bursa sac (that's part of the knee, in case you're wondering).
Cameron Maybin Injury: Knee Problem Sends San Diego Center Fielder To DL
The good news is that an MRI showed no structural damage:
"That was my biggest thing ... that there was no structural damage," Maybin said before the start of Tuesday's game against the Braves.
In his last 11 games, Maybin collected only five hits in 34 at-bats and scored just one run. So something pretty obviously had to give, and he’ll spend some time on the DL trying to heal up.
More good news: Prospect Blake Tekotte is already on the roster, and now the Padres can give the skilled defender an extended look in center field. At this point, the organization might as well start thinking about future seasons.
