Post-draft questions: NFC West

Getty Images

The 2011 NFL Draft is over, but every team still faces questions. Over the next week, we’ll present a question for each team. Each team’s success may depend on finding an answer. Today, the NFC West where there are several questions about the quarterbacks.

Arizona Cardinals
Who plays quarterback for the Cardinals? The Cardinals are reportedly going to seek a trade for either Philadelphia's Kevin Kolb or Denver's Kyle Orton. They may also sign impending free agent Marc Bulger. The Cardinals had better hope to get one of those three. While it wouldn't have made sense to take a quarterback in the draft, they're gambling in hope of getting a veteran signal caller.

St. Louis Rams

Can a change-of-pace running back be found in free agency? The Rams didn’t take a running back in the draft this year, which was somewhat surprising. It will be a shame if Steven Jackson wears down before

Sam Bradford

comes into his prime.

San Francisco 49ers

Did San Francisco give up too much to trade up for

Colin Kaepernick

? San Francisco gave up picks 45, 108 and 141 in the draft this year to get the Nevada quarterback. On a below-average team, the 49ers could have used the extra picks this year to add pieces. After all, it’s unlikely Kaepernick will see a lot of playing time in 2011 and make their record better. While it’s silly to project the success of quarterbacks in the 2012 draft, the Kaepernick pick may keep the 49ers from taking a quarterback in the first round next year.

Seattle Seahawks

Where does this team go at quarterback? At this point in his career,

Matt Hasselbeck

is injury prone, inconsistent and a pending free agent. The Charlie Whitehurst trade is looking like a questionable one that could leave the front office gun-shy on dealing for another veteran quarterback like Carson Palmer. It’s hard to see either Hasselbeck or Whitehurst making Seattle a winning team in 2011.
