Beat writer speculates that Da’Quan Bowers ‘is done’

In a question and answer with readers, San Diego Union-Tribune beat writer Kevin Acee says that second-round pick Da’Quan Bowers is already “done.”

Bowers fell to the Buccaneers in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft due to concerns about his injured knee.

Acee, who writes about the Chargers, passed along some information he received from NFL teams.

“There is concern by most teams that he might be essentially finished,” Acee wrote. “On some level, you have to applaud Tampa Bay for taking him. But there is a large number of people who have seen the medical report from when he was re-checked in April that believe he is done.”

That’s sort of been the unspoken reality behind Bowers and why he fell. Even if a team could get five or six good years out of Bowers, he probably would have still been a first-round pick. But to fall into the second could mean there is far more going on with Bowers’ knee than has been reported.

For now, it will remain speculative, at best. Read Acee’s full Q&A here. Thanks to Evan Silva of PFT/Rotoworld for pointing this out.
