No Allowance Until You Mow The Practice Field And Block That Field Goal, Boys

The slightly straw-mannish pipe dream of full cost-of-attendance scholarships for college football players has made its way to the annual conclave of SEC coaches in Destin, Fla. NCAA president Mark Emmert has already pooh-poohed the idea, but Steve Spurrier floated an interesting proposition at Wednesday’s meetings: Have the coaches themselves pay players $300 a game.

Commissioner Mike Slive calls it a “gesture,” one with little hope of coming to fruition, but if that’s true, and these seven guys are the ones putting their names to it, then the five imaginary Grinches in the SEC are Richt, Petrino, Chizik, Phillips, and Franklin. For theoretical shame, fellas.
