After taking quarterback Cam Newton No. 1 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Sporting News NFL annual preview predicts the Carolina Panthers will again hold the top pick in next year's draft.
Sporting News predicts No. 1 pick in 2012 for Carolina Panthers
The publication predicts that Carolina will finish with a league-worst 3-13. Here is the explanation:
Carolina won’t be nearly as inept offensively as last season, but this division is tough and the three other teams have also gotten better. It will take a while before No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton finds his stride.
The same team hasn’t had the No. 1 pick in consecutive years since the
in 1999 and 2000. Cleveland took quarterback Tim Couch in 1999 and defensive end Courtney Brown in 2000.
That would probably remain the case as long as Stanford junior quarterback Andrew Luck enters the draft. If he does and Carolina has the top selection, they would probably have plenty of suitors for the pick.
The magazine predicts four teams (Arizona, Buffalo, Denver and Washington) will finish 4-12. Green Bay over New England is the Super Bowl choice.
