So Coghlan has admitted to a knee problem of unknown nature and severity. Which is interesting, because he’s also been dealing with a shoulder problem that, in all likelihood, will eventually need surgery. Coghlan’s body has just been a mess.
Which at least goes a long way towards explaining his numbers. Over nearly 300 trips to the plate this season, Coghlan posted a .664 OPS, and this just two years after winning the NL Rookie of the Year award. He was the Marlins’ regular center fielder and leadoff hitter until last Friday.
