With Lalit Modi having revealed how his former employers, the BCCI, tried to scuttle the plans of the Indian Cricket League, the business head of Zee Sports - the company that owned the ICL – Himanshu Mody has said that there was a chance that they could resume the league.
ICL Could Be Restarted If Modi Reveals More
Speaking to a daily in India, Mody said, “The matter is in the court and we are waiting for Lalit Modi to reveal more on how BCCI plotted to kill our league,”
Modi had said on his Twitter handle that he will reveal much more on his own website, LalitModi.com once he is ready. He had earlier revealed much on his Twitter handle, including the fact that the BCCI were scared that the ICL could displace many of the Indian players from playing for the BCCI and that the board had instructed him to scuttle the ICL.
Mody, who had managed ICL from its very inception also said that there were many things that they weren’t aware of as well before Modi’s outburst on Twitter. Modi had alleged that the BCCI threatened the sponsors and the commentators of cutting off ties with them if they entertained the ICL.
Modi also revealed that there were some cricket boards like England, New Zealand, Pakistan and Bangladesh, which did not want to ban the players featuring in the ICL but had to do so under duress from the BCCI.
Earlier, the BCCI President, Shashank Manohar had said that he did not find Modi as fascinating enough to comment on, as the media did.
The last game that was played in the ICL was in November before the owners had to end the tournament because of lack of funds. Many of the players have yet to receive their money from the ICL and it remains to be seen whether there can be any realistic chance of resuming the tournament.
