Lakers’ Mike Brown Adds John Kuester To Coaching Staff

The Los Angeles Lakers have hired John Kuester as the first assistant coach to join Mike Brown's staff. The pair previously worked together in Cleveland for two seasons, during which the Cavaliers recorded a superb 111-53 record and notched a 2009 Eastern Conference Finals appearance.

Kuester spent the last two NBA seasons as the head coach of the Detroit Pistons, compiling a disappointing 57-107 record before being fired June 5th. Prior to his work in Detroit, Kuester spent 14 years in the NBA as an offensive assistant, working in Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit, New Jersey, Orlando, and Cleveland.

“I’m extremely excited to have John join the team as a member of my coaching staff,” Mike Brown commented in a statement released by the team. “Having previously worked together in Cleveland, I know what assets he will bring to the team. His ability to effectively communicate with the players while teaching them valuable skills on both ends of the court is a quality that I respect and value.”
