Brad Keselowski snaps winless streak: The Feed The Children 300 Review

Brad Keselowski is sure making a name for himself as a fuel mileage expert. Keselowski got his second Cup series win a few weeks ago by playing the fuel mileage game, and he got his first Nationwide win of 2011 by doing the same thing. Does NASCAR need competition cautions with 25 to go? I don’t know. The problem that NASCAR will always face is that crew chiefs will always try to find a way to win. Always. If you do a caution with 25 to go, then teams would do a splash and go with 27 to go, and wait for others to pit at the caution, then try to stretch the fuel to win. That’s the nature of competition.

Keselowski has had a wild ride in NASCAR. Keso started as an underdog trying to make it in an underfunded team. He was driving for Keith Coleman, a team that doesn’t exist anymore. Brad would find the ride of his life with Dale Earnhardt Jr. though. Having finally found good equipment, Brad’s finishes finally started to show his talent.

In 2008 Keselowski finally found victory lane, leading 33 laps at Nashville before taking the checkered flag. Brad would win again at Bristol later in the year. Keselowski had arrived, and he was the fan favorite underdog. In 2009 Keselowski won 4 races for JR Motorsports, and won his first Cup Series win thanks to a brilliant move at Talladega.

Last year everything changed, Keselowski left JR Motorsports and joined Penske Racing. Brad was no longer the underdog. Now a full time Cup Driver, Keselowski became yet another Cup driver running the Nationwide Series full time.

Then came the feuds. Keselowski and Edwards, Keso and Busch, the list goes on. Suddenly, the three time Most Popular driver was getting headlines for the wrong reasons. Even when he won the 2010 Nationwide Championship, the last Cup driver to ever do it, Keselowski was still known more for his flipping of Carl Edwards and his run ins with Busch than he was for winning a Championship. Brad’s terrible first year in Sprint Cup led many to question the decision to run both series. This year, Keselowski’s Cup career is looking a bit better, but he’s still working on getting into the top 20 in order to make the Chase as a wildcard.
