Michael Essien Injury: Chelsea FC Midfielder Out Six Months With Ruptured ACL And Meniscus

After going down in training last week, Chelsea FC midfielder Michael Essien has been confirmed out for six months by the club on Monday. There has been rampant speculation since Essien went down in training that he would be out for an extended period of time, but the knee was too swollen to scan immediately after the incident. Today, Chelsea revealed that the Ghanaian international had ruptured his ACL and meniscus and that he would miss approximately six months of action. Essien underwent successful surgery today.

Though they are not exactly the same player, a serious injury to Essien could cause Chelsea to up their bid for Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Luka Modric. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is adamant that Modric will not be sold, but the player would reportedly like to join Chelsea.

Essien is a world class midfielder, but he has seriously been hindered by injuries over the last two years. Injuries caused him to miss both the 2010 African Cup Of Nations and the 2010 World Cup.
