Kevin Durant Expresses Interest In Playing Abroad If NBA Lockout Continues

According to AP reports, Kevin Durant has expressed interest in playing basketball overseas should the NBA lockout carry over into 2011-2012 season. The young Thunder forward joins the litany of NBA stars that have voiced a similar resolution in the face of the oncoming negotiations.

“We’ll see, I would like to try something new,” Durant said Tuesday morning from a promotional tour in China. “But of course, my first option is playing in the NBA. So now I want to see how this lockout goes.”

It seems as if last week's surprising development regarding Deron Williams' future has spurred on a myriad of likeminded sentiments. The New Jersey Nets' star announced to great shock that he had already arranged to play out a contract with the Turkish team Besiktas if the lockout forced cancellation of NBA games.

Nonetheless, Durant said that he will allow ample opportunity for a new collective bargaining agreement to be reached before he makes any new resolutions.

“If not, I will make a decision on where I am going to play basketball,” said Durant, who added he’s in no hurry. “I am going to take it slow, everybody’s going to wait to see how this plays out. D-Will, you know, he made his decision quick and I am sure you are going to see a lot of guys kind of follow his footsteps. So, he’s very brave to be the first guy to do it.”

As these more of these proclamations continue to dribble out, it will be interesting to see the weight and conviction that the player’s words carry. A unified union is the only way the players can succeed over the owner’s bullishness, and superstars such as Kevin Durant backing any sort of burgeoning movement is paramount.
