Kristian Huselius Tears Pectoral Muscle In Offseason Workouts; Out Four To Six Months

Columbus Blue Jackets winger Kristian Huselius was initially recovering from hip surgery that he had in April when he suffered an even bigger injury that will push back his return. While lifting weights in Sweden, Huselius tore a pectoral muscle and had surgery to repair the torn muscle and will now be out for four to six months. Columbus GM Scott Howson had this to say about the situation:

“It’s a tough, tough injury for Kristian,” Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson said. “He was still rehabilitating the hip (surgery in April) but was going to ready to go for training camp. This is a pretty significant setback.

Huselius had 14 goals and nine assists in 39 games played last year, a year that was marred by injuries, and has been a consistent scorer for the Blue Jackets when he stays healthy. Our Blue Jackets blog, The Cannon, had this to say about the injury:

I would expect the Jackets to put Huselius on long term IR as soon as possible, freeing up salary to allow them to look for a free agent who could be plugged into a playmaking role in the top six. Options might include a 1 year deal for a veteran like Brendan Morrison, Cory Stillman, or Sergei Samsonov, or potentially making a trade.

This is going to get the already fairly active Blue Jackets back into the free agency market.
